What birth at Transitions
actually looks like.
Two Private Birth Suites
Transitions Birth Center has two private birth suites. Each suite includes:
- A large birthing tub for hydrotherapy and water birth
- A private bathroom
- Comfortable furniture for labor support and rest
- Bluetooth speaker for your playlist
- Space for your partner, doula, and support people
- Refrigerator for your food and drinks
Hydrotherapy
The tub isn't a luxury. It's medicine.
Water immersion during labor is one of the most effective non-pharmacological pain management tools available. Clinical evidence shows that laboring in water:
- Reduces the sensation of pain
- Decreases blood pressure and stress hormones
- Increases production of endorphins
- Reduces perineal tearing
- Allows freedom of movement
Many of our clients call it “the midwife's epidural.” You have full access to the tub for as long as you want it.
Prepared for Anything
TBC maintains clinical emergency supplies including neonatal resuscitation equipment, oxygen, IV supplies, uterotonics for postpartum hemorrhage management, and other medications appropriate for a licensed birth center setting.
In the rare event that a transfer is needed, your midwife and our facility staff initiate the process immediately. St. Vincent Southside is directly across the street, and HCA Memorial is nearby — our midwife holds privileges there and can continue your care if a transfer becomes necessary. Transfer protocol is practiced and tested.
What to Bring
Pack like you're staying in a really comfortable hotel. Bring:
- Labor playlist (connect to Bluetooth)
- Snacks and drinks for labor (cooler if refrigerated)
- Comfortable clothes for laboring, something to wear home
- Baby's first outfit and blanket, car seat installed
- Baby thermometer
Your midwife will cover everything clinical. We provide pads, mesh panties, ice packs, and basic postpartum supplies.
